Behind the Lens

I’m Steven van Horick, a photographer drawn to the subtle tension between abstraction and reality. My work lives at the intersection of fine art and street photography, where everyday scenes become visual compositions that feel both familiar and strange.

I photograph in both color and black and white, each offering a different way of seeing. My color work is quiet but intentional, focused on rich tones, compressed perspectives, and abstract details that reveal themselves gradually. I often frame fragments within the larger scene, creating balance from overlooked moments.

In black and white, I mostly work wider. I step closer into the scene and let geometry lead the way. Lines, structure, and shape become central, often reducing complexity to its most essential form. This approach allows me to create spatial tension and depth, even in the most ordinary environments.

My goal isn’t to document but to interpret, to reshape the everyday into something unexpected without fully explaining it. The result is work that invites you to look again and notice what might have gone unseen.
